Federal officials are investigating whether the Bausch & Lomb Contact Lens Solution known as "ReNu Contact Lens Solution" is causing an eye fungus known as Fungal Keratitis. (Click here for a definition of Fungal Keratitis.)
Many major stores in the United States, such as Walgreens, CVS and Wal-mart have pulled the Bausch and Lomb product "ReNu with Moisture Loc Solution" from store shelves on reports the product may have been contaminated with a form of Fusarium Keratitis, or Fungal Keratitis. There has been pressure on the manufacturer of ReNu to recall the contact lens solution.
The Centers for Disease Control, or CDC, revealed it was evaluating more than 100 reports of Fungal Keratitis in over 15 states. Health officials have made no direct connections so far, but reports are that a high percentage of the patients had been using the contact lens solution ReNu with MoistureLoc.
While the manufacturer is maintaining innocence, Bausch & Lomb stock has tumbled of late, as stores such as Wal-Mart, Walgreens and CVS keep pulling the product from their shelves and inspectors from the FDA, or Food and Drug Administration, have been scouring Bausch & Lomb Factories for signs of Fungus Contamination.
Fusarium Keratitas, or Fungal Keratitis, can cause scarring and blindness in its victims. Symptoms of fungal keratitis can include pain or redness, blurry vision and increased light sensitivity.
