Special Disability Rules For People Who Are Blind
The Social Security Administration provides special disability
benefits and has specific rules for people who suffer from blindness
or are legally blind.
Social Security Administration Definition of Blindness
The Social Security Administration considers
you to be legally blind under if your vision
can't be corrected to better than 20/200 in at least one eye.
The SSA also considers you to qualify as blind if your visual
field is twenty degrees or less with a corrective lens. You may
have some site and still qualify for disablity benefits for the
blind.
Vision Problems Combined with Other Disabilities
You may qualify for disability
benefits even if you are not legally blind. If your vision problems
are combined with other health problems, and the combination of
health problems prevent you from working, you can be considered
disables.
Blind and Work Problems
Being blind can have a severe impact on a person's ability to
work. The blind generally have a higher income limit than the non-blind.
There are a number of special rules for people who are blind that
recognize the severe impact of blindness on a person's ability

are blind is generally higher than the limit that applies to non-blind
