Definition of Disability
The definition of disability, according to the Social
Security Administration, is based on a person's ability to
work. By definition, you are disabled under the Social Security
rules if you can't do the same work you performed before you
suffered medical problems. You must also prove that you can't
adjust or learn another form of work because of your disability.
Additionally, to satisfy the SSA's definition of disability,
your condition must be long-term (lasting at least one year)
or result in your death.
The Social Security Administration hase a very strict definition
of disability. The SSA only pays for complete disability. You can
not receive benefits if you are only partially disabled, or disabled
for less than one year. The Social Security Administration assumes that you or your family
will have other means of support, such as workers
compensation or insurance,
during a short term disability. This assumption may or may not be
correct. You should contact our experienced Social Security Disability
lawyers to protect your rights and make sure you receive all the
benefits that you qualify for.
